When Image is Everything, Every Detail Matters and Staccato Screening Delivers

October 2, 2014 • Print Services

staccato screening

Take advantage of the latest innovation in printing technology by making your materials pop with the photo-quality imaging available through Kodak’s Staccato® Screening.

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]or better or worse, we live in a high-definition world. From HD TV monitors and video players to photo-quality reproduction printing, we’ve come to expect every last detail on an image to come through with crystal-clear clarity. High definition Staccato® Screening can deliver improvements in tone gradation, color vibrancy, and line sharpness previously unseen with other printing methods. That’s why we are excited that customers of Arkansas Graphics, Inc. can benefit from Kodak’s Staccato® Screening — the latest great advance in printing technology.

Benefits of Staccato for Photo-Quality Printing

What makes Staccato® so much better than competing screening techniques? For one thing, the combination of Staccato® with Kodak’s Spotless extended screen patterns and color printing solutions gives you truer, richer, more evenly distributed color than other methods can provide. Semi-randomized halftone patterns are used for each separation, doing away with annoying color shifts and giving you purer, more saturated areas of color.

Smooth gradations have always challenged even the finest stochastic, or FM, printing technology, and back in the days of AM/XM printing they were all but impossible. The large blocky dots of the AM/XM era tended to create visible checkerboard-like distortions instead of smooth transitions from tone to tone. FM halftone patterns created inconsistencies that produced a grainy, uneven look. Staccato® Screening drops extremely fine halftone dots in orderly clusters to avoid these unwanted visual effects.

But those tiny dots yield more than perfect gradations and smooth color distribution; they also allow for more efficient ink distribution. Smaller dots dry faster, so a wider range of materials (plastics, newsprint, stock paper, etc.) can be used and your projects get completed quicker. They also produce uniquely sharp, clear lines so that even the tiniest details can pop with the highest level of clarity and readability. That level of detail control also produces stunningly sharp images for photo-quality reproduction printing. This makes Staccato® Screening ideal for projects such as:

  • Full-color brochures
  • Media kits and product catalogs
  • Mailers and other marketing collateral
  • Graphic design and photography portfolios
