[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t was an exciting day at Arkansas Graphics on Monday January 7, 2013. The Little Rock news media assembled in our pressroom where Oaklawn Park printed 30,000 trading cards honoring Calvin Borels’ upcoming 5,000th career victory.
“It is a great pleasure to host Calvin Borel along with Oaklawn Park and Hot Springs officials. It is an honor to meet someone who is a legend in his field and yet is as humble and gracious as one could be. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve Oaklawn and Hot Springs by printing what will one day soon be a valued piece of Arkansas history.” says Executive Vice President Kevin Wilcox.
Borel has several big wins at Oaklawn and three Kentucky Derby wins, earning him more than $20 million in his 30 year career. The 46-year-old could hit the milestone this Friday at Oaklawn park.
“I’ve been very fortunate and very successful. Oaklawn loves me and its very nice for them to do it,” said Borel in an interview with Hubert Tate of Fox16 news. “5,000 races was my goal and I am there. I really don’t know how long I am going to stay at the game, but I love the game. As long as I stay safe, I am going to keep knocking.” added Borel.
The Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission is sponsoring the printing. Fans who want a card must be present at the race, when the milestone is hit.
Arkansas Graphics in Little Rock, one of the states largest printers, was selected for this project due to its ability to produce the cards using high definition Staccato screening linked to strong color management.
